At the end of the XIX century, the village became known as a balneal resort. Tomsk intellectuals and scientists came here, V. Sapozhnikov, G. N. Potanin, V. Ya. Shishkov and others visited it.

The island was a favorite place for prayers of St. Macarius (Nevskiy), who served for many years in the Chemalskiy camp of the Altai spiritual mission, who later became the metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomna.
